A Filipino Tango Band is Born!!
Nurtured in the USA, the Ramilonga Orquesta will make its international debut in the Philippines. AND rightly so, because the Tango Band Members are all Filipinos.
What makes this band special? For one, it has a father & son team playing the bandoneon and piano respectively. Secondly, it has a 12-year-old lad playing the piano, a wonder boy indeed. And lastly, they are Filipinos dishing an all-out Tango selection played well predominantly by Argentinians.
Julian Ramil (Bandoneonist) is a tango dancer, teacher and organizer in the Bay Area, San Francisco USA. Glen Cortez (Bass) is a tango dancer, teacher and a sought-after DJ in the Bay Area as well. Diego Ramil is simply put, Gifted.
The Filipino gift for musicality is recognized the world over. But having a Tango Band solely composed of Filipinos is a First in the World of Tango.

CUARTETO RAMILONGA
DIEGO BAYANI RAMIL
12-year-old Diego Bayani Ramil was introduced to music at a very early age through his father, and began to play the piano at 3 years old. At age 5, Diego began his formal lessons with International Concert Pianist Heidi Hau. Since then, he has played at several music festivals throughout the SF Bay Area including the SF Russian Center, SF Yerba Buena Art Center, and was recently a soloist for the Bach Piano Concerto in Dm with the ECYS orchestra at the Heritage Theatre. He is currently a student at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-college Program.
Diego is a very versatile musician and also enjoys playing music that inspires dance. He is currently the main pianist of the SF Latin Jazz Youth Ensemble directed by John Calloway. He has also played with some of the top leading musicians of Argentine Tango, including contrabassist Pablo Motta from Buenos Aires.
DENISE SANTOS HUANG
Denise Santos Huang has played several solo and chamber music concerts and engagements locally and in the US. She has held leadership positions in various local orchestras such as the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, Manila Symphony Orchestra, and FilharmoniKa and toured Europe with the Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra as a young violinist. Aside from playing classical music, she has also played for many pop recordings, TV commercials, and international acts such as Phantom of the Opera, Richard Clayderman, Michael Buble and New Opera Singapore’s production of Britten’s Turn of the Screw.
As an educator, she is a coach and mentor to her studio composed of violinists of various ages, from the very young to her college students and professionals. She is also an adjunct faculty member at the St. Scholastica’s College, Manila, Philippine Women’s University and Philippine High School for the Arts and currently chairs the Strings Division for the National Music Competition for Young Artists.
Denise holds a Master of Music degree in Violin Performance at San Francisco State University as a Pone, Morrison, Nagel and Creative Arts scholar under Jassen Todorov and the Alexander String Quartet. She received her Bachelor of Music degree and early music training with Basilio Manalo, Arturo Molina and Socorro Medina-Hara as a PREDIS and Battig scholar from St. Scholastica’s College, Manila, where she graduated as valedictorian of her class. Denise balances her performing and teaching with family as a wife and hands-on mother of two.
JULIAN RAMIL
Julian Ramil has dedicated his life to the art of Argentine music and dance. He was introduced to Argentine tango while studying the Latin American Classical Guitar 25 years ago. Shortly after, he devoted himself to learning the dance for several years studying with numerous renowned instructors of Buenos Aires leading him to become a very influential Argentine tango social dance instructor throughout the U.S. and abroad.
As a bandoneonist, Julian has studied with instructors from Argentina including Joaquin Amenabar, Daniel Diaz, Coco Trivisonno & Hector del Curto. Soon after receiving a Bachelor of Music degree from San Francisco State University, Julian co-founded and was a member of the first Argentine Tango Orchestra formed in the United States, the San Francisco Tango Orchestra directed by bandoneonist Roman Rosso (de Buenos Aires). He was also a member of Seth Asarnow y Su Orquesta Tipica performing in an array of venues from tango festivals, championships to theatre productions.
ARISTON PAYTE III
Ariston Payte III received his Bachelor of Music degree in Contrabass from the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Manuel Pinon. He was then awarded a scholarship grant by the Elisabeth University of Music in Hiroshima, Japan where he obtained his Master of Music degree in Contrabass Performance, studying with Ken-ichi Saito. While in Hiroshima, he became a member of the Elisabeth University of Music Orchestra under Maestro Kazuyoshi Akiyama and performed with the Hiroshima Bach Soloist.
In 1996, he attended the ASEAN Youth Music Workshop held in Bangkok, Thailand. He was a prize winner at the National Music Competition for Young Artist Contrabass category C in 1996. In 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, he participated in the Asian Youth Orchestra and had rehearsals in an extensive program of music in Hongkong under Maestro Sergiu Commisiona. Concerts took place subsequently in Hongkong, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, China, Taiwan, Thailand and Australia.
In November 2008, he performed as soloist with the University of Santo Tomas Symphony Orchestra in the Tribute to the Thomasians concert held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. He performed with the ASEAN Symphony Orchestra in Vietnam, ABC Orchestra in Cambodia, Orchestra Nipponica Tokyo and Myanmar National Orchestra. He was a former member of the UST Symphony Orchestra and the San Miguel Philharmonic Orchestra. Presently, he is the Assistant Principal of the contrabass section of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra and a faculty member at the UST Conservatory of Music.
